What You must know: THE H BOX IS TRAVELING

The H BOX is a 20m² mobile projection space based now in Le Fresnoy since November 2013. In 2006, this project was shown at Centre Pompidou in Paris, and it traveled in Europe and Asia until 2012. You can see there artworks fostered by Le fresnoy, and creations by young artists co-produced by Le Fresnoy and Hermès. What you must see: RETROSPECTIVE/BERNARD TSCHUMI

This exhibition presents the architect and theorist Bernard Tschumi's first major retrospective in France. His definitions have radically revived architectural design methods. More than 300 original works are shown, including drawings, models, sketches, collages and series of conceptual arguments related to film, literature, visual arts and philosophy.

"There is no architecture without an idea or concept, just as there is no architecture without a means of notation. Architecture is not knowledge of form, but a form of knowledge."

What you must have: CONQUES/UNE LUMIÈRE RÉVÉLÉE, PIERRE SOULAGES

Between 1987 and 1994, Pierre Soulages was commissioned by the Ministry of Culture for the creation of 104 stained glasses of the Sainte-Foy-de-Conques Abbey, next to Rodez, his native city. French painter, engraver and sculptor Pierre Soulages is also known as "the painter of black". Light, color and reflection are the most important subjects he has been working on for more than 60 years. As soon as he discovered this church, he knew that art would be a life-long commitment. His devotion to painting is closely linked to this place. Following extensive research and with Jean-Dominique Fleury's help, a renowned glassmaker, Pierre Soulages decided to manufacture a particular kind of glass, translucent and colorless, in order to let the natural light come inside. Through sober refined bands, the artist has managed to sublimate this western romanesque architecture. This book includes color illustrations and texts by Bruno Duborgel.
