Musts of the Week: 15 - 21 December 2014

Must Know : A bridge-garden on the Thames

The project to create a garden bridge over the Thames between Waterloo Bridge and the Blackfriars, received his penultimate green light Tuesday night in London. This greenway, suspended over the Thames, could open in 2018 when the Mayor of London also gives its approval. The bridge, whose cost is estimated at 175 million pounds (222 millions of €), received in mid-November the first agreement of the municipality of Lambeth (South London). If the construction of the pedestrian bridge with trees, flowers and succulents is definitely allowed, work should begin in late 2015 for a public opening scheduled in 2018. The project is, however, not to everyone's taste. Wednesday, its cost and location were particularly criticized on social networks.

Must See : A conceptual subway map !

The cover of the next pocket metro map of London was designed by the french conceptual artist Daniel Buren. Distributed since the begenning of december 2014, you can now discover a new art work in the Tube. The pieces are a prelude to Buren’s forthcoming permanent artwork commissioned in conjunction with the major upgrade at Tottenham Court Road station, launching in 2015. He is the 21st artist to be commissioned to make a Tube map cover, but is the first to use the Underground’s iconic Roundel symbol.
