Artist-desiger Irene Ganser has long been fascinated by the structure of natural materials and how they take on a new life when cast in metal. It all began with a 250 year old wooden wine press from the Wachau region in Austria. The wood lives on in the metal castings, its rugged grain, deep furrows, notches and grooves immortalized in bronze. She uses the traditional craft technique of sand-casting, each piece is unique, finished and polished by hand to bring out the nuanced reflections in surface texture. This is the story behind her KOLLMÜTZ collection of four matching small tables. Kollmütz is the legendary vineyard of weathered primary rock where Austria’s signature wine Grüner Veltliner has been cultivated for centuries. Each has been sand-cast from a different cut of the same ancient wooden wine press that inspired her iconic GV KOLLMUTZ cube. The four side tables on their elegantly delicate legs can work as an ensemble or be placed individually.
